Descriptive Writing

We have been working on our descriptive writing.
We are learning to use activated nouns, our senses and metaphors and similes to paint a picture for our audience.

We have been writing about summer this week (Check out Miss Drayson's Writing page on the class site for our writing inspiration)

Here are some opening sentences we wrote to show our audience it is summer time.

Sunblock melts down my arms as the pressure burns through my bones.

Just before the dew rose from the grass, the two brothers grabbed their home made wheelers and headed for the forest.
(what time of day is Jack talking about?)

sunblock melts down my arms like the cool river.

Keep an eye out on the blogs for the complete stories

I notice that more people in the class have blue eyes.
I wonder why not many people have hazel eyes?
I think Hazel is a very rare eye colour in room 5.

Rippa Rugby

We were lucky enough to have a Rippa Rugby coaching session yesterday. We learnt about some of the skills we need and got to have a game as well.

What were some of the skills you need to play Rippa Rugby?
What was your favourite part of the session?

The Alaskan Town Where Most Residents Live Under One Roof!

Hello, my name is Summer and I have been reading the news today and came across this interesting article about the Alaskan town were most residents live under one roof.

I found it interesting because it was hard to believe that nearly the whole town live's in the same place and there is even a play ground and school inside.

I can relate to it because I have lived under the same roof with friends and family in a tent.

I wonder if one day they all move out and move to there own place.

Real Life Sleeping Beauty Summary by Larnie

Hello, my name is Larnie and I have been reading the news today and came across this interesting article about a 17 year old girl that has a virus that makes her sleep and sleep and sleep. The longest she has sleeped in for is 64 days (Click on the link below to see the full article).

http://www.dogonews.com/2012/11/26/rare-disorder-turns-pennsylvania-teen-into-a-real-life-sleeping-beauty
I found it interesting because no one can find a a way to help her stop her sleeping virus. Nicole has had this virus since she was 7 years old and she has had only 3 Christmas's in her life and she is 17 now!!!. She also sleep through meeting Katie Perry.

I can relate to it because I sleep in a lot and I love to sleep but she wishes she could have a normal life and I do have a normal life so we are differing in a way.

I wonder if there are more people have this virus and if some one will find a a way to stop it one day?
If you enjoyed Larnie's summary then please visit her blog at http://dsslmcmillan.blogspot.co.nz/2015/02/larnies-article.html and leave a comment.
